kasia pilat ☺

I'm a journalist and social media editor at The New York Times.

(Kasia rhymes with Tasha.)

I've reported on the impact of #MeToo in Czechia, interviewed Judy Chicago and profiled Baggu. I appeared on CNN to talk about the Polish tennis star Iga Świątek's love of strawberries and pasta. My illustration for mason jar ice cream went viral, and I've created lots of other social graphics for NYT Cooking, including a bespoke typeface, infographics and portraits. I produced a social video series that focused on helping home cooks gain skills in the kitchen.

I've worked at WNYC, the Daily Dot, Paste, Vogue Entertaining + Travel and the Metro newspapers (RIP), where I interviewed musicians like Lady Gaga, Lykke Li and Perfume Genius. At WNYC I cut tape, researched guests and ran into John Cusack in the hallway. For three years I was an editor at the Prague Post, the only English-language newspaper in Czechia. An interactive website I produced with my graduate school cohort at NYU's Studio 20 program was a Student Innovation Finalist at SXSW.

In my spare time I teach line dancing to seniors at SAGE, an organization that provides advocacy, resources and community for LGBTQ+ elders. I also run a sustainable resale popup called Rabbit Rabbit.

As an avid pickle person who has developed recipes for pickle soup and pickle lemonade on NYT Cooking, I'm excited to be leading a Jane's Walk called "Pickle Paradise: a Walk Exploring New York's 'Pickle Alley'" this May.

Though I call New York home, I was born and raised in the Boston area. As such, I can never own a Yankees hat.
